Scientific or engineering novelty is only one part of the investment case. Commercialization pathways, time to scale, capital intensity, manufacturing constraints, customer adoption, ecosystem dependencies and the availability of follow-on capital can determine the outcome just as decisively. The useful question is therefore broader than whether the technology works: where will durable economic value accrue, what must happen to reach it, and what can derail the path?
